The Ford government needs to improve “quality control” for how Ontario’s municipalities hire integrity commissioners, says a former PC party staffer.
Guy Giorno, who is now a municipal integrity commissioner himself, told a legislative committee last week that Bill 9, the government’s proposed Municipal Accountability Act, doesn’t go far enough in ensuring commissioners have the expertise and judgment required for the role.
If passed, the bill would allow municipal councils to expel one of their own in case of serious misconduct.
