An industry group is lobbying Queen's Park to create a regulatory and licensing system for towing companies in Ontario.
The Provincial Towing Association of Ontario was registered this week by John Henderson, a consultant with The BrainBox, with the explicit intent to encourage the regulation and licensing of the towing industry in the province.
According to the registration, the goal of this lobbying effort is to regulate equipment, mandatory training, and insurance as well as to introduce licensing of towing companies, towing equipment, and operators. In addition, the association is also seeking to extend the Provincial Highway Incident Management Limited Financial Protection Agreement to small vehicle tows, 25 per cent of which go unpaid, raising concern for the health of the industry and the need to increase charges paid by insurance companies and consumers to cover this shortfall.
