Here's the latest from the Ontario lobbyist registry.
The Ontario Library Association was registered by Virginia Weese and Caroline Pinto, both consultants with Counsel Public Affairs Inc. to discuss the implications of the Municipal Act, 2001; City of Toronto Act, 2006. Specifically, the implications of expanded mayoral authorities on local public library governance and the importance of legislative updates to include clear reference to the Public Libraries Act, 1990 to appropriately reflect the limitations of the special powers of the mayor as head of council. Additional discussions were held centered around the important updates to the Core Education Funding model to restore and enhance protected funding and accountability measures to ensure that funding allocated to school boards for school libraries and teacher-librarians is effectively used and spent on its intended purposes, in line with the Ministry of Education’s funding formula recommendations. Educate on the important function performed by public libraries and library staff, as both community hubs and supporting access to and delivery of online government services/transactions, particularly for rural/Northern communities, seniors and low-income Ontarians, and ensure this informs the development and implementation of digital government modernization and access to important services.
