The operator of several nuclear reactors is lobbying the province on reducing regulatory hurdles.

Bruce Power's president and CEO Eric Chassard registered this past week with the Ontario Integrity Commissioner's Office to lobby on behalf of the electricity generator. MacKenzie Collings, a consultant with Rubicon Strategy Inc., also registered to lobby for the company, which operates eight nuclear reactors on Lake Huron.

According to their mandatory filings with the commissioner's office, Bruce Power is lobbying the Ontario government to help identify areas for red tape reduction in several sectors to help find additional ratepayer savings. It also wants to discuss Ontario’s energy plans including a long-term commitment to nuclear power which includes the successful refurbishment of Ontario’s nuclear fleet, electricity planning includes input into various policy issues being considered by policy makers and continued discussions around commercial considerations primarily with various agencies including the Independent Electricity System Operator.
