Ontario Association for Behaviour Analysis

First, was to share the follow up results from the ABA classroom pilot programs that were conducted pre- COVID, and expand ABA coursework across colleges and universities with flexible options for students. Next was to provide Teacher and EA ABA training opportunities on PD Days (e.g., how to reduce the likelihood of challenging behaviour). Further discussions were had around increasing the capacity of international students’ entry into behaviour analytic programs and subsequent VISAs to work in Canada. Lastly, to incentivize companies to offer more field placement opportunities for students.

The purpose of this registration was to seek regulatory amendments through the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks to facilitate the continuation of existing landfills. These amendments would eliminate unnecessary approval delays and costs without negatively impacting environmental protection. The client is seeking changes to Bill 197, COVID-19 Economic Recovery Act, 2020 that would make permitting and approval of new landfills possible. Currently Bill 197 requires new landfills to obtain a resolution of support from every municipality within 3.5 kilometers of the proposed site. In the opinion of Walker Industries, the industry views this requirement as a major impediment to developing new landfills.

The purpose of their joint registration was to educate MPPs and government staff on the client’s role within Ontario's shipbuilding industry. Additionally, meetings were held to discuss the merits of Ontario adopting a marine strategy. Lastly, part of the lobbying effort was devoted to educating the government on the economic development benefits that can be gained by supporting the shipbuilding industry.

The goal of the registration was to discuss Ontario’s high aviation fuel tax, as it currently has the highest of any jurisdiction in Canada and is among the highest in North America. The client proposed that the Government of Ontario help Ontario businesses devastated by COVID-19 by refunding the excise tax paid on aviation fuel by air operators in the province. Not only does this tax hurt Ontario’s competitiveness, it places additional burden on young people as flight training schools pass the higher fuel costs on to students and increase the already high cost of flight training for the next generation of commercial pilots. The reduction of the aviation fuel tax can generate positive side-effects that will boost the economic impacts and reduce the net revenue losses for the provincial government.
