Whitby launches campaign advocating for new hospital in Durham Region

“Our current hospital system can’t keep up with the current demand. The pressure today is worse than it was during the pandemic,” said Whitby Mayor Elizabeth Roy.

Whitby Mayor Elizabeth Roy on Wednesday launched a campaign to pressure the province to bring a new hospital to her community.

She said the campaign was prompted by the Ford government's silence over the past two years to a proposal for a new hospital in the Durham Region.

The last update on the proposed hospital came back in January 2022, when Lakeridge Health, the region's health system and hospital network, established a panel that chose Whitby as their preferred construction site.
