The Ontario NDP convention in Niagara Falls this weekend isn’t expected to bring the drama of last week’s Liberal gathering, but make no mistake, the official opposition party is entering this biennial meeting with its eyes fixed on power.
While NDP Leader Marit Stiles is undergoing a leadership review, it’s widely expected she’ll pass with ease.
There’s no active campaign to unseat her, no public dissent among MPPs, and no whisper network of potential contenders waiting in the wings. What delegates are gathering to do instead is recalibrate and refocus the party’s agenda, and, as longtime NDP strategist Erin Morrison put it, “the theme is all about winning.”
