Premier Doug Ford says he told Prime Minister Mark Carney to strike a quick deal with U.S. President Donald Trump, or be ready to hit back hard. Ford said Thursday that if U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum aren’t lifted in the coming days, Canada should “come out guns a-blazing” with matching retaliatory tariffs. The Canadian Press reports.

Behind closed doors, Prime Minister Mark Carney is holding direct negotiations with Trump to craft a potential trade and security agreement. U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra confirmed that Carney and top cabinet ministers are in “deep, deep discussions” with the White House. The Globe and Mail reports.
