Trudeau announces $1 billion national school food program

The program, promised in 2021 as part of Trudeau’s re-election campaign, will see $1 billion invested over five years to provide meals to 400,000 children per year across the country.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday announced that a new food school program would be included in this year's federal budget, set to be tabled on April 16.

The program, promised in 2021 as part of Trudeau’s re-election campaign, will see $1 billion invested over five years to provide meals to 400,000 children per year across the country.

Trudeau said the money would be transferred to provinces and territories via bilateral agreements.
