The Ontario government is abandoning its plan to delay recycling targets by five years.
After facing significant backlash from municipalities, environmental advocates, and opposition parties, the Ford government announced it will maintain existing recycling targets for paper, glass, metals, and rigid plastics.
But producers will be given two years where they’re only required to make “best efforts” to comply.
