It was a mixed bag for the Ontario Liberals in Thursday’s provincial election, regaining official party status but failing to displace the New Democrats as the main adversary to Doug Ford’s PCs in the legislature.

The Liberals are leading or elected in 14 ridings as of 11:10 p.m., taking just under 30 per cent of the vote. It was enough to clear the 12-seat threshold for official party status, though it it wasn’t enough to supplant the NDP as the Official Opposition. The New Democrats are leading or elected in 25 ridings, despite only grabbing 19 per cent of the vote.

The PCs won a third consecutive majority government, grabbing 81 seats.
