TDSB trustees call for creation of a formal cellphone policy

TDSB trustees call for creation of a formal cellphone policy

Toronto District School Board trustees are calling for a formal policy around regulating students' use of cellphones during school hours.

On Wednesday, the TDSB's governance and policy committee voted in favour of creating a policy to address inappropriate cellphone usage in classrooms.

Currently, there is language in the board's code of conduct that sets out guidelines regarding cellphone use in class. The code only allows phones to be used for educational, medical, or special education purposes. This language was universally adopted by all boards in 2019 under the Ministry of Education's directive.
