Where to draw the line between freedom of expression and hateful speech in post-secondary institutions?

That question sparked a heated debate in the legislature this week with the introduction of Bill 166, known as the Strengthening Accountability and Student Supports Act. The bill would give Minister of Colleges and Universities Jill Dunlop the power to draw this line on behalf of post-secondary institutions.

Bill 166 requires post-secondary schools to have policies to address mental health, racism and hate. It also gives the minister the power to issue directives specifying what exactly needs to be included in the school policies.
