Earlier this week, the House of Commons unanimously passed at third reading Sen. Rob Black’s bill that seeks to establish a Food Day in Canada, thus ensuring it will become law.

Black’s bill is half legislation, half tribute, and 100 per cent a testament to the legacy of Anita Stewart, the late culinary writer and food advocate who organized the first Food Day exactly 20 years ago.

The initiative started as a response to the BSE (mad cow disease) crisis in 2003, which prompted the U.S. to shut its border to Canadian beef.
