Thousands of Ontario Liberal delegates packed into a Scarborough high school on Saturday for a high-stakes nomination meeting for the looming Scarborough Southwest byelection.
More than 3,500 memberships were sold ahead of the contest, according to party officials and observers on site, making the race one of the largest and most closely watched nominations in recent Ontario Liberal memory.
The contest has become a crucial test for Nate Erskine-Smith, the Beaches–East York MP seeking to pivot into provincial politics and potentially position himself for a future Ontario Liberal leadership bid. So far, Nate has refused to say if he would give up his leadership bid if he fails to win today’s nomination.
