With only a limited number of sitting days remaining before the legislature rises for the summer, and municipal campaigns already beginning to ramp up, it remains unclear whether the government will move the legislation forward before voters go to the polls in October.

Premier Doug Ford is refusing to commit to passing the government’s long-promised municipal code of conduct legislation before Ontarians head to the polls in October’s municipal elections, despite previously saying that the reforms are a priority.

Asked Tuesday by QP Briefing whether he was committed to passing Bill 9 before the Oct. 26 municipal vote, Ford didn't offer any guarantees.

“Great question,” Ford said. “We’re working with Minister Flack, Municipal Housing, and we’re gonna work on this and hopefully get this through.”
