Premier Ford’s message to feds on highway and mining projects: Time to step up

While the region’s remote access and lack of roads have stalled progress, Ford said development will be “led by First Nations” and reiterated confidence the federal government will provide support soon.

Premier Doug Ford insisted the Ring of Fire mining project is still on track despite its absence from Ottawa’s list of fast-tracked infrastructure priorities, brushing off suggestions that it's not ready for development.

"I talked to [Prime Minister Mark Carney], it’s going to be on the next tranche," Ford told reporters during a Tuesday morning scrum. "We’re ready to go, and the chiefs said they’re ready to go."
