Premier Doug Ford insisted the Ring of Fire mining project is still on track despite its absence from Ottawa’s list of fast-tracked infrastructure priorities, brushing off suggestions that it's not ready for development.
"I talked to [Prime Minister Mark Carney], it’s going to be on the next tranche," Ford told reporters during a Tuesday morning scrum. "We’re ready to go, and the chiefs said they’re ready to go."
The massive mineral deposit in Ontario’s Far North has long been touted by Ford’s government as essential to Canada’s electric vehicle supply chain. While the region’s remote access and lack of roads have stalled progress, Ford said development will be “led by First Nations” and reiterated confidence the federal government will provide support soon.
