The upcoming provincial byelection in Milton could be a major challenge for the governing Progressive Conservatives, say insiders, as the region has become increasingly competitive in recent years.

On top of that, the PCs' recently named candidate is drawing attention for his close ties to the Liberals, including an unsuccessful bid to win the federal Liberal nomination in 2014.

Zeeshan Hamid, a three-term Milton town councillor, was named as the PC candidate for the riding on Monday, and immediately questions were raised about his relationship with the Liberals.
