Given current affordability challenges, the Ford government's continued delay in implementing changes to rebalance the power dynamic between ticket vendors and buyers has puzzled members of the opposition.
In May 2019, less than a year after coming into power, the Ford government passed its 2019 budget, containing amendments to Ontario's Ticket Sales Act.
Overall, the changes would weaken control companies like Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation have on the ticket sales market. The amendments would require ticket retailers to disclose the number of tickets sold to an event, including the amount in separate batches, prohibit companies from limiting transferring of tickets, and increase fines against violators of the law.
