Ontario unveils 25-year integrated energy plan to meet surging demand

The Ontario PCs have unveiled the government's first Integrated Energy plan (IEP), a 25-year strategy titled Energy for Generations, to tackle an anticipated 75 per cent increase in electricity demand by 2050.

The overall idea is to consolidate fragmented energy planning into one integrated system that includes electricity, natural gas, hydrogen, and other emerging technologies.

According to the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), electricity demand in Ontario is projected to surge by 75 per cent by 2050, which would add additional demand equivalent to 4.5 times what the city of Toronto currently requires.
