Health Minister Sylvia Jones announced several new programs to strengthen the province’s weakened health care system, including an easier way for physicians trained overseas to work as family doctors.
While visiting Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, Jones announced the province’s initiation of a practice ready assessment (PRA) program for internationally trained physicians looking to work in family medicine.
The program allows general practitioners with overseas training and experience to complete a 12-week supervised on-the-job assessment as opposed to a lengthy and expensive training and examination process in order to practice medicine in the province.
