Ontario repeals controversial Bill 124

Bill 124 has been hugely controversial since it passed in 2019. Most notably, it capped salary increases for public sector workers to one per cent a year for three years.

Ontario repeals controversial Bill 124

The Ford government has repealed its controversial wage restraint law known as Bill 124.

It announced the decision in a brief statement released on Friday, nearly two weeks after the Ontario Court of Appeal ruled that the law was unconstitutional. Soon after, Premier Doug Ford said the government wouldn't appeal and would instead scrap Bill 124 in its entirety.

The court ruling struck down Bill 124's wage restrictions for unionized employees, but upheld it for those weren't.
