The auditor general’s report said the cost of redeveloping the Ontario Place is now estimated at $2.2 billion due to the way its bidding process was conducted.

The costs of the project have now ballooned into a $2.2 billion public expenditure —$1.8 billion more than initially estimated. The government plans include a private spa by Austrian firm Therme, a revamped music venue, and a relocated Ontario Science Centre.

Public funds will cover parking costs for the redevelopment — a cost projected to exceed $400 million, up from an earlier estimate of $280 million. The price per parking spot could reach $444,000.
