Ontario PC party locks media out of convention weekend

The event was scheduled to overlap with the federal Conservative convention in Calgary, where leader Pierre Poilievre is facing a high-profile leadership review. That gathering is open to the media and is expected to dominate national political coverage this weekend.

The Ontario PC party explicitly barred journalists from entering the party convention.

Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives confirmed this week that no media will be permitted to attend any portion of the party’s three-day convention at the Toronto Congress Centre, an unusual decision that is already drawing criticism from political observers.

“The Ontario PC Party Convention is a closed event and will not be open to media attendance,” party director of communications Peter Turkington wrote in a brief email to news organizations that had requested to register.
