The Ford government says it's starting the work on a long-awaited expansion of Highway 7 in the Kitchener-Waterloo region but wouldn't commit to a timeline on when commuters in the area can expect the project to be completed.
Transport Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria announced at a press conference on Wednesday that the province was starting the process of seeking out bidders for the project to replace the Frederick Street bridge in Kitchener.
The plan is for the bridge to be extended and lengthened to ensure traffic can flow in both directions with shoulders and bring in multi-use paths accessible for pedestrians and cyclists.
