The Ontario government is proposing changes to how vulnerable sector police checks are processed, saying this will reduce delays for people seeking jobs or volunteer positions that involve working with children, seniors, and people with disabilities.
The Ministry of the Solicitor General said upcoming legislation would amend the Police Record Checks Reform Act, 2015 to allow designated police services to process vulnerable sector checks for applicants who live outside their local jurisdiction.
The government says the change is aimed at easing backlogs and speeding up hiring and onboarding processes, particularly in sectors that rely heavily on vulnerable sector screenings.
