Ontario Liberal leadership candidates square off over donations, transit in penultimate debate

Federal MPs Nathaniel Erskine-Smith and Yasir Naqvi, Ontario MLA Ted Hsu, and Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie participated in the campaign’s fourth debate on Thursday, less than a month before provincial Liberals are set to pick a new leader.

Less than a month before Ontario Liberals select the party’s next leader, the four remaining candidates sparred over a wide range of issues during the race’s penultimate debate in Ottawa on Wednesday night.

However, federal MPs Nathaniel Erskine-Smith and Yasir Naqvi, Ontario MLA Ted Hsu, and Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie spent most of the night promoting their respective plans for reuniting the provincial Liberals, rather than engaging in an exchange of barbs. 

In fact, very few areas of disagreement emerged over the 2-hour event, as all four candidates who took the stage were focused on a shared enemy — Premier Doug Ford.
