Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith have signed a pair of new agreements to accelerate the development of pipelines, rail lines and export corridors to transport Alberta’s oil and Ontario’s critical minerals to global markets.

The deal puts pressure on Prime Minister Mark Carney, whose government has promised to make Canada “an energy superpower” but has faced criticism from provinces and industry groups over regulatory delays and barriers to project development.

The two premiers finalized memorandums of understanding (MOUs) in Calgary on Monday, pledging to work together to build the infrastructure needed to reduce reliance on the U.S. and expand trade to Europe and Asia.
