The Ford government says the 2024 federal budget failed to address its major concerns around affordability and didn't provide requested investments in provincial infrastructure projects.
Federal Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland tabled the $534.6 billion spending plan on Tuesday. The budget focused heavily on housing, laying out a swath of measures aimed at building over 3.8 million homes in Canada by 2031.
It also included tax increases aimed at Canada’s wealthiest, though these failed to put a dent in the deficit, which is expected to total $39.8 billion for 2024-25, marking a slight decrease from the last fiscal year, but a $1.5 billion jump from projections in the 2023 fall economic statement.
