Ontario’s grid operator is moving ahead with a new wave of renewable energy procurement, awarding long-term contracts to a slate of solar and wind projects.

The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) announced Thursday that 14 projects, with 12 being solar and two wind, have been selected through the first “energy stream” of its Long-Term 2 procurement process. All projects will receive 20-year contracts and are expected to come online by May 2030.

The procurement will deliver roughly 3 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity annually, meeting the IESO’s target for this first round. In total, the projects represent about 1,315 megawatts (MW) of new capacity, including 915 MW from solar and 400 MW from wind.
