A new fast-track plan announced by the province will allow high school students who want to work in the trades to spend up to 80 per cent of their time on training and 20 per cent on schoolwork. The plan is set to begin this fall.

This comes after Minister of Education Stephen Lecce announced last week a cellphone ban in schools, as well as blocking access to all social media on schools’ networks and devices. He also announced plans to ban vaping on school property. The minister says these new rules show "that we can do better in Ontario."

The change was announced Wednesday morning by Minister Lecce and Labour Minister David Piccini. It has been more than a year since the government first announced plans for the change, which aims to facilitate teens to get into the trade market during a shortage across the province.
