Ontario's provincial government is changing how it defines affordable housing.

Bill 134, introduced by Housing Minister Paul Calandra last month, will change the province's current market-based approach by considering local incomes when determining whether new housing builds meet the criteria of 'affordability.'

The bill comes a year after the province passed legislation that exempted new affordable builds from fees developers are required to pay to municipalities.
