Ontario’s new hiring transparency rules promise clearer pay information and disclosure of AI in recruitment. But as employment lawyers question how the measures will be enforced, Labour Minister David Piccini says the province has the tools to ensure compliance.
As of Jan. 1, employers with 25 or more employees must include salary ranges in public job postings, disclose when artificial intelligence is used in hiring, confirm that a job vacancy is real, and notify candidates of a hiring decision within 45 days of an interview. The changes were introduced under the latest iteration of Ontario’s Working for Workers legislation and are now enshrined in the Employment Standards Act.
Employment lawyers have warned the measures risk becoming more symbolic than substantive without proactive oversight.
