Ontario Liberals face questions about platform, fundraising as early election speculation intensifies

“There are things that we could obviously do better, and I haven’t seen a big improvement on them yet,” said a long-time Liberal volunteer who asked to stay anonymous to speak freely.

Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie says her party is gaining ground on the governing PCs, dismissing claims of discontent in Liberal ranks over recent byelection losses.

“We are a party that, as we saw coming out of the last general election, closed the gap significantly. Of course, it’s always better to win, but when we come within five points, I know we’re in striking distance of a general election,” she told reporters on Wednesday, her first press conference in months at Queen's Park.

But many see those near-misses as proof the Liberals are struggling to reconnect with voters, and are questioning why Crombie is struggling to improve the party's prospect even more.
