It seems that not only Premier Doug Ford and his Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy are finally on the same page about waiving the HST for all homebuyers, but Prime Minister Mark Carney is on board as well.
Both governments are moving to temporarily scrap sales tax on new homes in a bid to revive construction and improve affordability.
Standing at a construction site in Mississauga this Wednesday, Ford announced a one-year exemption on the 13 per cent harmonized sales tax (HST) for new homes valued at $1 million or less. The measure, jointly funded by Ottawa and Queen’s Park, will form a cornerstone of Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy’s provincial budget, set to be tabled this Thursday.
