A newly formed group of Ontario Liberals is mounting a campaign to change who can participate in the party’s internal elections, arguing the Ontario Liberal Party should tighten membership rules in response to concerns raised in the federal foreign interference inquiry.
The organization, calling itself the “Section 31 Liberals,” has formally submitted a proposed constitutional amendment that would bar temporary residents from becoming members of the Ontario Liberal Party: a move that would also prevent them from voting in leadership races and nomination contests.
The proposal was electronically delivered to party president and executive officials after organizers gathered the signatures required under the party constitution to advance an amendment at a future annual meeting.
