Freeland rejects Poilievre's call for early election

What the minister said this Thursday hinted that the Liberal government, despite lagging in the polls, is betting on an improvement in the economy to bolster their standing with Canadians.

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland on Thursday dismissed calls from Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre for a fall federal election.

She instead suggested that Poilievre's push for an election is driven by political opportunism rather than the best interests of Canadians.

"I think we need to really take these assertions [made] by the Conservative leader with a very healthy grain of salt," she said.
