Ford wants to understand U.S. expectations for trade. “I want to find out where their bar is set,” he said. “Rather than keep moving the goalposts, I want to know how quickly they want to move and what their requirements are.”

Premier Doug Ford says tomorrow’s meeting in the U.S. is about building relationships and understanding trade priorities.

“We’re just going down there to build a relationship and see what their needs are,” Ford said. “I don’t want to set expectations that we’re walking away with a USMCA deal because that’s not going to happen, but at least we’ll get a feel for what they need.”

USMCA is the name of the continental free trade deal in place in North America. It came into force during the first Trump administration, replacing NAFTA.
