Premier Doug Ford said the province will take over the Billy Bishop airport and declare it a special economic zone.

It would mark the first time the province uses the law, after it released the criteria for designations earlier this year.

Ford announced Queen’s Park will step into the City of Toronto’s role in the tripartite agreement governing Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, effectively taking control to expand its runway and allow larger jets to land minutes from downtown.
