Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he is prepared to invoke the notwithstanding clause to push forward legislation that would make portions of the province’s sex-offender registry public.
The Ford government will introduce legislation next week to begin formal consultations on opening the Ontario Sex Offender and Sex Trafficker Registry (OSOTR) to the public, a database currently accessible only to police.
The premier confirmed this Monday that he wants residents to be able to learn whether someone convicted of a sexual offence is living in their neighbourhood.
