Ontario Premier Doug Ford wants Canada's next free trade agreement with the U.S. to exclude Mexico, and called on the federal government to renegotiate a new bilateral deal with the incoming Trump administration.
In a social media post on Tuesday, Ford said Mexico has become a "backdoor" for Chinese goods, which have undercut the Canadian and American markets, putting Ontario jobs at risk.
"You look at Mexico, they're importing cheap products, undercutting hardworking men and women not only here but in the U.S., from China," Ford said at an unrelated press conference in Oro-Medonte, Ont. "They're slapping a 'made in Mexico' sticker on and shipping it up and taking our hardworking men and women's jobs away from them."
