The finance minister pledged to work with colleges and universities to address pressing funding needs, but said no tuition increase was coming.

Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy on Monday said the province would work with colleges and universities to address funding needs but ruled out any tuition hikes as post-secondary institutions brace for the impact of a national cap on international students.

“One thing we've been clear on is we're noting raising tuition. We're going to work with the college and university sector... but we'll also work with the federal government,” he told reporters after tabling the province's 2023-24 third quarter finances report.

“I think it is very important that we continue to attract the best and brightest around the world, continue to support colleges and universities."
