A major nuclear refurbishment at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station is now complete, with the final reactor unit set to return to service months ahead of schedule and under budget.

Energy and Mines Minister Stephen Lecce announced Monday that refurbishment work on Darlington’s Unit 4 has wrapped up four months earlier than expected, bringing the overall $12.8-billion project in roughly $150 million under budget

The unit, originally set to return to service in August 2026, has received approval from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission to begin initial power testing later this month, with full power expected shortly after.
