The government's latest attempt to reduce surgical wait times has come under fire as critics raise concerns about the further strains it may have on the public health care sector.

“People should not have to wait months for diagnosis and necessary services,” said Sylvia Jones, deputy premier and health minister, at a press conference to introduce the act.

On Tuesday, the government tabled the Your Health Act, which aims to reduce the surgical waitlist by allowing private clinics to offer public care in a solution to what Jones called a “decades-long problem.”
