Ontario's financial ledger has been a see-saw as of late, with the province reporting large deficits one year, only to break even or come close the next.
This past year has been no exception.
In the 2023 budget, Ontario anticipated a budget deficit of $1.3 billion. But in the final public accounts for the 2023-24 fiscal year, released on Thursday, the deficit came in much smaller at only $600 million.
