The Liberal government is considering introducing increased tariffs on Chinese electric-vehicles (EVs) as soon as later this summer.
Speaking in Vaughan, Ont. on Monday, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland announced the launch of a 30-day consultation process to explore policies that address the threat posed by cheap imports of Chinese EVs, including hiking tariffs, changing eligibility criteria for federal funding programs, and other investment restrictions.
The consultation period will officially begin on July 2.
