This question period briefing was rather difficult to write as the exact same scene played out on Thursday as we saw on Wednesday, minus the scores of NDP MPPs getting thrown out.
The NDP used all their questions on education. The Liberals used their single question on education.
Basically every question was the same.
Will the government withdraw the bill? Why is the government forcing a strike? Why didn't the government make CUPE a better offer? Why doesn't it care about the rights of workers who make an average of $39,000 a year?
Basically every answer was the same, too.
Kids need to be in class. The government had no choice but to introduce this legislation since CUPE refused to withdraw their strike threat. Education unions' "never-ending strike" has gone on long enough.
NDP MPP Jamie West pointed out that the government could've made a different offer, extended the deadline or offered binding arbitration.
"Mr. Speaker, we insist that kids are in class," Education Minister Stephen Lecce said.
MPPs also took turns reading out quotes from education workers and parents who were frustrated with the government and school closures, respectively.
