Bill 13, Accepting Schools Act, was amended in the Standing Committee on Social Policy and sent back to the house for third reading. It’s expected forward for third reading vote on Monday. The competing Tory effort, Bill 14, remains in the Standing Committee on Social Policy.

Bill 19, Residential Tenancies Amendment Act (Rent Increase Guideline), received second reading debate before being included in a government motion to strike a deal on the budget. A second reading vote was deferred but will likely take place Monday morning during deferred votes. The motion schedules the Standing Committee on Justice Policy to hear public response to the bill on June 7 and 11.

Bill 30, Family Caregiver Leave Act (Employment Standards Amendment), continued in second reading debate.

Bill 34, Security for Courts, Electricity Generating Facilities and Nuclear Facilities Act, underwent clause-by-clause consideration at the Standing Committee on Justice Policy. It will be reported back to the House for third reading next week.

Bill 52, Ontario Forestry Industry Revitalization Act (Height of Wood Frame Buildings), was the subject of public hearings in the Standing Committee on Regulations and Private Bills. Clause-by-clause consideration is set for June 6.

Bill 55, Strong Action for Ontario Act (Budget Measures), was the subject of second reading debate this week and was part of a motion to set the terms for the rest of the session. The bill should be voted on Monday and is expected to pass second reading. Bill 55 is scheduled for public hearings in the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs on June 6, 7, 8, 11 and 12. The bill's final third-reading vote is scheduled for June 20.

Bill 67, Children's Law Reform Amendment Act (Relationship with Grandparents), passed second reading and was referred to the Standing Committee on Regulations and Private Bills. The committee already has a number of bills before it so the Act is unlikely considered further until the fall.

Bill 76, Ensuring Local Voices in New Casino Gambling Development Act, was the subject of public hearings at the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs. It is unlikely it will receive further consultation this session as the budget Bill 55 is likely to occupy the committee for the remainder of its scheduled sittings.

Bill 77, Labour Relations Amendment Act (Fairness for Employees) was the subject of public hearings at the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs. It is unlikely it will recevie further consideration this session.

Bill 82, Wireless Services Agreements Act, had its first day of second reading debate.

Two bills failed this week to pass second reading and were lost on record division. Both were private member’s bills introduced by PC members: Bill 88, Pesticides Amendment Act (Licence for Cosmetic Purposes) and Bill 92, Comprehensive Public Sector Compensation Freeze Act.
