It was a good week for . . .

* Tory MPP Rob Leone who was front and centre as he got the green light for his motion to find Energy Minister Chris Bentley in contempt of parliament.

* NDP Leader Andrea Horwath whose approval rating is at 48 per cent, according to a new poll. That's higher than the combined numbers for her two rivals Tim Hudak (26 per cent) and Dalton McGuinty (20 per cent).

* Backbench MPPs who got their 20 minutes in the spotlight (as opposed to the normal 15) as they weighed in on Leone's contempt motion and its amendments.

* Bill Davis, Bob Nixon, Bob Rae and other former politicians who were fondly remembered by MPPs of all stripes for their words and actions in the good old days when party leaders and all MPPs were forthright and smart and possessed sound judgment.

* OFL chief Sid Ryan and other leaders of Ontario's public and private sector unions who said Finance Minister Dwight Duncan's draft legislation on public sector pay "managed to unite the labour movement in Ontario like it's never been united before."

* Liberal MP Justin Trudeau who told reporters he had "nothing to announce"about his intentions to run for party leadership but already was polling ahead of Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

It was a bad week for . . .

Energy Minister Chris Bentley. Enough said.

Stakeholders, or anyone else who was expecting the legislature to do any business as MPPs spent three full days debating "an amendment to an amendment to a motion," as Liberal MPP Helena Jaczek so aptly put it.

Tory and NDP staffers who lost a lot of sleep as they sifted through 36,000 pages of documents on the two cancelled power plants looking for anything that was a) embarrassing to the government; or b) missing. They found a bit a both.

Tory MP Stephen Woodworth whose motion to reopen the abortion debate failed 203-91 in the House of Commons. The member from Kitchener-Centre went against the expressed wishes of Harper, who has said repeatedly he does not want to reopen the decades-old reproductive rights debate. Harper voted against the motion.
