* A downtown Toronto casino could spur $2 billion in capital investment, OLG chair Paul Godfrey told the Toronto Board of Trade Friday.

“This would be one of the largest development projects anywhere — and anytime — in Canada and would involve a capital expenditure of more than $2 billion,” said Godfrey. “Once operational, it will directly employ some 12,000 people in well-paying jobs.”

He said an additional 6,000 construction jobs would be created on a temporary basis.

“We envision a facility in which less than 10 per cent of the square footage would be dedicated to table games and slots,” said Godfrey. “There would be gaming, but also hospitality, entertainment and retail.”

* Premier Dalton McGuinty weekend itinerary is "private" for a not-so-secret reason – his oldest child and only daughter Carleen McGuinty is getting married.

The premier will walk her down the aisle Saturday, while the younger McGuinty sports her grandmother Elizabeth McGuinty's wedding dress.

The ceremony will be very small and very private, with only about 30 people attending.

* Kitchener trustee Ted Martin was acclaimed this week as chair of the Waterloo Region District School Board. He replaces Catherine Fife who resigned after winning the Sept. 6 byelection in Kitchener-Waterloo.

Trustee Andrea Mitchell also has resigned as vice-chair of the board. Both Martin and Mitchel’s replacement, who will be chosen on Sept. 24, will hold office until annual board elections are held on Dec. 3

* No more milk for kids in one Kitchener kindergarten glass. Also, no cupcakes, pasta or yogurt.

St. Timothy Catholic School has implemented a dairy and eggs ban in one classroom in order to accommodate a single student who suffers from severe allergies that can cause Anaphylaxis.

The other kids in the class won't be allowed to bring anything with even traces of either product to school and they'll be banned from school-wide sub and pizza days. Parents were provided with a list of acceptable foods, including vegan margarine, brown rice pasta and Oreo cookies.

Some parents have threatened to move their children to other schools or pursue legal action, the Waterloo Region Record reports.

* A Canadian Association of University Teachers investigation has concluded that complaints by students against former Queen’s University professor Michael Mason were unfounded.

A report by the association found that the university acted “callously and irresponsibly” when it cancelled some of Mason’s classes after students alleged that he had made racist comments during his lectures.
